Carolan Brown
Founder and Director
Carolan Brown has been working at the forefront of the fitness industry in the UK for twenty years. Carolan’s unique range of abilities blends her excellent teaching skills, with humour, creative vision, conceptual ideas for the future of the fitness industry and a natural leadership ability, which has kept her at the cutting edge of the health and fitness industry.

Formally trained as both dancer and choreographer at the Laban Centre, a performing arts and movement therapy training centre at Goldsmith College, east London. Carolan developed her career in the field of personal fitness coaching; achieving celebrity status herself whilst training HRH The Princess of Wales for four years.

Carolan pioneered a revolutionary concept in training courses and workshops for exercise teachers. Within the UK, 7,000 teachers have attended her workshops nationally. She has presented to fitness instructors internationally, extending her skills to set up and coordinate studios for a large health club chain across the south of England including Richmond.

Carolan has choreographed and produced six exercise videos, most recently ‘Flowpilates’ and published two books ‘Body Watch’ published by Headline a personal fitness book and most recently ‘Pilates Course for Every Body’ published by Readers Digest world wide.

Carolan has scooped a variety of prestigious Business awards and, as a media personality, is regularly asked for advice on health and fitness issues for television programmes. She has been featured in the Daily Mail, the Express, Shape, She, OK! and Woman magazine in the UK and the USA. Carolan was the fitness writer for Handbag.com a women’s internet magazine. Her most recent business the Soma centre was named as one of the top ten centres in the UK by the Independent newspaper in November 2003.

Carolan trained in Pilates, the balanced body conditioning exercise method, at the Physical Mind Institute in New York. With a passionate belief that the leisure industry should constantly evolve to meet the demands of our changing life styles Carolan believes that exercise should benefit long-term health and has developed the criteria for the synergistic Mind Body classes and therapies available at Soma Centre. Her motto is – A peaceful mind gives life to the body.

Extensive expertise in the fields of dance fitness and mind body training has enabled Carolan to work along side many professionals in the industry and strives to recruit the very best staff for the Soma Centre.
